WWW, September 2014 - What's the difference between a Showcase and a Dub Showcase, Ariwa Style? Well, the fact that not every vocal track is followed by it's Dub (which you can easily change in your player) plus the fact that there's an extra Dub version Of "Three Meals A Day" labeled Sound System Dub. Luciano and Mad Professor In Fine Style!

Of course, when Luciano sings into the multi track recorder at Ariwa studio with Mad Professor at the controls he listens to excellent music. Of course, when Ariwa prepares for Luciano they will come with a variety of musical works that will all emphasize a different side of The MessenJah. Of course a collaboration between Luciano and Ariwa brings niceness.

This is a Dub Showcase, not a Showcase and not a Dub Album. This is an album about Luciano, and the Dubs are there to recall the vocal tracks while they're still fresh in your memory. While Luciano showcases his many sides, from smooth Lovers' Rock to strong Prophetic Calls and Chants to JAH, Ariwa shows they have just the right music for the right vibe. After all, Roots and Lovers Rock are two specialties of the London-based studio's.

As the album plays for this review, the Dubs are all programmed to be played directly after it's vocal counterpart. That means, no change in the sequence for the first 4 titles. Tracks 9-11 subsequently are three vocals, followed by four dubs. Almost one hour of good vibes, freedom sounds and nice dubwise.

The arrangements, playing of instruments, backing and lead vocals, everything is perfectly worked out. Luciano gives his best, while Mad Professor does his best to emphasize the MessenJah in Dub Showcase style. This is not a Dub style for an all-dub album, this is a Dub style that gives you meditation, gives you some extra time to skank pon di riddim. A Dub style that makes you hear new things every time you play the music.

How shall we call it? What about Roots Lovers Rock Reggae, to combine the two dominant styles on Deliverance Dub Showcase? Mad Professor showing he's not just one of the Dub masters in the world, he knows how to produce music by using top musicians and how to mix Dubs from that music in fine style.

From the very first track, a crucial rendering of Dennis Brown's song that gave the title to this album as well, to the very last one ("Three Meals A Day, No Rent To Pay and No Wife To Obey, Talking Bout Detention....") which is a heavyweight Roots Steppers with equal Heavyweight Dub Mixing, this album is what it says. This is Mad Professor showcasing Luciano in his own special style.

So, what was that about an extra Dub version called Sound System Dub? This is Luciano singing from the top to the last drop with Mad Professor mixing the music in Dub style.

Get all tracks, or just a few. When you're into Dub, get the Dub from "Three Meals" called "One Dub A Day".

WWW, September 2014 - Talking about a singer, you're talking about Asante Amen. A crucial voice he has, especially when he's using it to go in all directions like a roller coaster. On top of that, he gives praises to the Most High which is of course the Source of all singing. Asante Amen, this is not the only place where you'll be reading about him.

Should you be wondering about Jamaica and slackness and the way that so-called crucial combination is called in especially the MTV's of this world, wonder no more. It's not that wonderful combination and there are a lot of Jamaicans who rather see a combination of Jamaica and Righteousness. Say that, say Asante Amen. Forget about the slackness kings and queens, make way for the positive vibrations of today's Jamaican conscious singers like this brother.

WWW, August 2014 - After five years of silence in the vinyl area, the Italian Dub collective MOA ANBESSA has scheduled a 12" release for September 15 in this 2014. The Dubroom had a chance to listen and wholeheartedly recommends all vinyl addicts to go and order the 180 grams of Roots Reggae Ireness from the Venice crew before it's sold out.

It's almost impossible to follow the Dubroom and not know about Moa Anbessa. This collective of conscious Singers and Players of instruments (including the mixing board) stood at the root of the -now online legendary- Italian Dub Community Showcase series, while their productions are well sought after by selectors of major Sound Systems like Aba Shanti-I and Jah Shaka. This is Roots Reggae (Dub) in it's finest form, namely that of the conscious kind. It comes with the kind of communication that actually fits the massive sounds of the drum and bass lines. 

They have no need to be introduced when you have downloaded the Italian Dub Community Showcase series. Solid as a rock, the Rock that is that solid foundation. The musical vibes go straight to your heart, and so does this vinyl release. Even more: those who know their vinyl usually prefer it over MP3 or even CD because of the lower frequencies and they definitely want these tunes. 

Actually, we're talking about two vocal tracks with their (separate) Dub/Instrumental counterpart. Two singers, too: Prince David and Jules I. Both are part of the Moa Anbessa collective, and both tracks have served as Dub Plates for the well known Aba Shanti-I Sound System until they were printed on this 12 inches of Righteousness. In fact, this release is not planned to be anything else but what it is: a stricktly vinyl release.

Both Prince David and Jules I deliver a very strong message. Actually, it is a call and a message. A remembrance call to all people, that is. A remembrance call to praise the Creator, to start following His ways rather than the vanity that Babylon has to "offer". It's a message of strength and encouragement to all those that are already aware that we have a Creator and that He must be praised. Yes, this is the kind of Roots Reggae that is so desperately needed in so many places all over the globe. Both singers deliver their call in a very heartical way, a way that can never be matched by the Babylon Industrial voices pushed into our ears each and every day.

Now, the music and especially the Dubs. Both tracks are steppers. "Watch Them" would musically be the sugar part, "Jah Jah Calling" the spice. Of course this becomes all too clear when you're listening to the Dubs. Or, to be more precise: an instrumental and a Dub. "Watch Them" comes with a pure instrumental (often called "pure riddim"), "Jah Jah Calling" is followed by it's militant, hard stepping Dub version. The production itself is clear yet fat, evidently mixed for vinyl. 

A very, very fine release that is expected to be in the better Reggae stores both online and offline from September 15, 2014. As far as we could tell, the track was released on 7" vinyl in Jamaica and is now also available for free download at Junior Kelly's Reverb Nation page.

Junior Kelly shows just how versatile he is. A heavyweight Roots Rasta track or a more smooth one like this: he is perfectly able to voice the riddim and share a good vibration while doing so. Download "Receive" and while you're at his page at Reverb Nation, consider buying a track or two more.

WWW, July 2014 - Junior Kelly's life hasn't been easy. Born and raised in Kingston, he saw his older brother -a DJ for Kilimanjaro Sound System- brutally murdered. That's right, and on top of that his brother was the primary source of income for the whole family. He was also the example for his younger brother, who since then has been working hard to spread a positive message as a vocalist. 

Knowing about this background of Junior Kelly can only lead you to a deep sense of respect for the Jamaican singer. Someone who does not turn to violence and criminality but instead uses music and spirituality is -or should be- an example to many. His affiliation is with the House of the Bobo Shanti and thus with artists like Capleton and Sizzla, but musically he takes a different direction and with that, he appeals to ones who prefer their Reggae sung rather than chanted over.

Often compared to Luciano, a definitive fact is that Ras Khaleel knows how to deliver a conscious message as well as a more lighter thing like a lover's tune. Never losing dignity or consciousness, he is definitely an example to just too many vocalists doing the slackness thing.

You should take the name Bryan Art serious, though, and the four excellent musical works of this release even more. Why? Well, that's the four dollar question you will see answered in this review of Fresh Start, the EP.

First, the music. Four excellent contemporary Jamaican Roots Reggae tracks, perfectly recorded into the multitrack by Bryan Art's FILE13 Band. This is the kind of Roots Reggae that counters the slackness and emptiness that is the majority of (Jamaican) Dancehall. This is the kind of Jamaican Music that brings blessings to the whole world. 

With special appearances by none other than Sizzla and Queen Ifrica accompanying his evidently talented and skilled voice, "Fresh Start" is an essential introduction to this multi-tasker in Reggae Music as well. The name Bryan Art, namely, should need no introduction and the fact that it might is a shame. So in a way, Fresh Start is a proper title. It's a fresh start for us as listeners, a fresh chance to get ourselves familiar with this very interesting brethren.

Bryan Art is a guitar player, song writer, band leader, and a singer. Among other things. He has toured all over North America and Europe, sometimes as part of a backing band and sometimes in a different setting. He has been the guitar player of the Fire House Crew, that is King Tubby's House Band personally formed by the Godfather of Dub himself, band leader for Bushman's backing band, the list goes on and on. The music of this Art is not to be ignored or underestimated!

This is another album that should not be absent in the collection of any self-respecting collector of the better works, and not just because it is offered free of charge by the DUB Iration Sound System!

Usually, a little name dropping sets the stage but this would absolutely not be justifiable in the case of "Lost Books 2". This is a release in the "all-killer-no-filler" category, where we're taken from a militant steppers to a meditative two drop and back again, while conscious messages are being delivered all the time as well.

WWW, August 2012 - No less than eighteen tracks are compiled in what hopefully is the first of many to come, and not just because it has some of the top names in UK DUB and Roots in there like Vibronics, Kanka, Alpha & Omega and Zion Train. Or Digitaldubs and Dubmatix from across the Atlantic. And no, not just because it's a free download either. It's all this together and more!
 
They hail from Guadalajara, Mexico. Their name is DUB IRATION SOUND SYSTEM and they perform, release and otherwise work harder than hard to promote (DUB) Reggae in their area as well as worldwide. For example, by releasing this more-than-excellent compilation of 18 top DUB and vocal tracks.

The album presents a wide variety of different styles, both in the vocals as well as the DUBS. Unfortunately there are no DUB versions of all the vocal tracks present in "Lost Books Of Dub", but that's only a minor issue when you consider the tunes by themselves which is really "all killer no filler" as I and I say.

Let's do a little more name-dropping, just because it says a lot. So whether you like hard stepping DUBS (Kanka, Digitaldubs), or some crucial toasting (Solo Banton, Brother Culture), whether you prefer singing (Dan I), or simply an old-skool touch (Dubiterian), the whole album through you get introduced to more styles and versions. Altogether this is an impressive picture of what is done these days with DUB and ROOTS.

WWW, June 22 2012 - Many may argue the name Al Anderson chose for his interesting collective, but he was responsible for those guitar licks that many enjoyed so much back in the days Bob Marley and the Wailers were touring and producing. Blackbird is taken from their début album released in April this year.

The tune itself definitely is well produced, played and sung. It cannot be denied that indeed the musical format of Bob Marley and the Wailers is being used to produce simply nice Reggae music with commercial potential. One can argue the name of the band, but not the skillful way they play!

WWW, September 28 2010 - "Set Him Free" is a powerful track by the Connecticut-based Jamaican singer Pappa Biggy, created in 2009 when the news broke on Buju Banton's arrest in Florida on cokane charges. After almost nine months of being in jail, Buju Banton was finally put before a judge and jury, who could not come to a verdict with the result that a new trial is set for December. That's when Buju Banton will then be in jail for a year. 

Pappa Biggy graciously gave the Dubroom permission to upload the track.

WWW, September 2010 - After the countdown, we're being treated to a very majestic intro, with a full band plus backing vocals delivering the right vibe for the rest of the track.

A very smoky voice continues to ride the live riddim after the introduction, asking just why there is so much money spent on rockets to space and military objectives, where love and peace should be running the place.

The band plays tight, obviously they've done this before, including the electric guitar solo which give the music a rock vibe, and a saxophone playing crucially skillfully.

WWW, July 2010 - He was discovered by Yabby You, and later went on to become the most known lead singer for the vocal harmony group Black Uhuru. Michael Rose, or Mykal Rose as some people call him these days, has been around and isn't planning to go away either.

In "Are You Ready For Something New" (featured in Episode 8 of Radio Dubroom 2010), we find Mykal Rose singing over the Rise Up Riddim, produced by German based Bongo Chili. A nice riddim, with Mykal Rose skillfully singing over it. The track shows once again the versatility of Mykal Rose, who definitely isn't limited to voicing dancehall tunes.

WWW, July 2010 - Alberto D'Ascola was born in 1977 in Sicily (Italy), but the Reggae Massive knows him as Alborosie. After a life full of tribulations, his brother being killed on the street and him being kicked off school, he found his calling in music and is currently residing in Jamaica from where he releases some very interesting material.

"Free Rototom", the track we review here, is especially produced by the multi-instrumentalist and vocalist to support the well-known Rototom Sunsplash festival. Originally, the festival was organized and held in Italy but they had to relocate the whole thing to Spain. Babylon doesn't like it when Reggae and Consciousness are promoted in a combination, but music is strong and Alborosie is strong too!

A crucial Roots Reggae track, with skilled vocal works and a righteous message, this track cannot miss in your collection of High Quality free and legal (DUB) Reggae Music!

WWW, July 2010 - DUB Akom is a French Based band, specialized in backing up Dancehall vocalists such as Jah Mason and Sizzla. With that, they are a bit different than other bands we know from the French scene which seem to be more focused on Roots and Dub. In this four-track EP with French based vocalist Faianatur, this vibe is perfectly captured.

Don't expect strictly Dancehall vibes on the EP: it opens with a contemporary Roots like we know it from the German band Firetime and others. The second title comes in Dancehall style, we can hear why Jah Mason chooses to work with Dub Akom. Track number three, "Turban", again in Contemporary Roots style gives Faianatur the opportunity to introduce himself, his style and his philosophy.

Dub A Come, yes: in the last title of the 4-track EP we're being treated to a crucial DUB and we're left wondering why the EP wasn't in this style completely. But then, the EP wasn't about Dub but about featuring the works of Faianatur.

WWW, July 2010 - Described as "Dub With Feeling, Dub With Meaning", the excellent Showcase album "In The Garden Of DUB" by US based Kris Naphtali is in many ways a blessing for those that download the album. This is indeed DUB with Feeling and with Meaning!
 
With the exception of Kris Naphtali's contribution to the album and Brizion's "Good Over Evil", all the music comes from Europe. The UK, of course, represented by names like Kibir La Amlek. France and Belgium are there too, as said, with two American contributions.
 
This is a well sought-out compilation which will definitely cater to the needs of DUB connoisseurs and others who like their Digital DUB just a little too much, if that were possible. It may well serve as an introduction to DUB and (other) Reggae for the lovers of digital dance music, it is definitely spiritually uplifting for Jah children and as such, "In The Garden Of DUB" can very well be seen as an accomplished project, an accomplishment that deserves more than Raspect!

WWW, July 2010 - Even when you are not able to comprehend the German language, you will still want to listen to "Feur und Flamme" (Fire and Flames). Recorded in Munster (Germany), the album features the German band Firetime with several different vocalists. The result is a gathering of German and English lyrics on some very crucial Contemporary Roots Reggae in the style of Luciano and others.

Originally released in 2008 on Goldvibes Records, the album is very well produced in every way you can think of. The music is more than nice, it is a heartical vibe very much in the style we know as contemporary Jamaican Roots Reggae. The several German sung tracks reveal that we are not dealing here with a Jamaican release.

Firetime, throughout the whole album, shows their skillfulness. Tight where it has to be, loose where looseness is necessary. Everything played in close connection with each other, the band is obviously veteran.

Thirteen tracks, alla dem nice!
